JAPAN OPEN & CARNIVAL ON ICE

Japan Open is an invitational team competition where skaters are grouped into Team Japan, Team Europe, and Team North America. Each team is composed of two ladies and two men. Retired skaters can also be invited. Skaters perform only their free skates, and the team with the highest total score wins. The Japan Open gala is called Carnival on Ice and features skaters who did not participate in the competition, in addition to the ones who did.

2019 Challenger Series Overview

Introduced in the 2014-15 season, the ISU Challenger Series brings together several well-known minor competitions. Top skaters often use Challenger competitions to warm up before their Grand Prix events and to gain World Standing points. Scores recorded at Challenger competitions count for a skater’s season/personal best.

A series of seven competitions featuring the top junior skaters in the world, the JGP will start in late August and conclude with the Junior Grand Prix Final in December. All of the competitions will be livestreamed for free and uploaded on the ISU JGP Youtube channel.
