2016-17 Russian & Japanese National Championships: Info & Streaming

With the conclusion of the Grand Prix Series, we now kick off the second half of the season with two of the most hard-fought national championships in the world - Japan and Russia, both taking place this week from Dec. 22-25. Tune in to see your favorite skaters battle for a spot at the ISU Championships in 2017! More information will be added to this post as it appears.

RUSSIAN NATIONALS

The Russian National Championships will take place Dec. 22-25 in Chelyabinsk. Russian Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the European and World teams. The final World team is usually announced after the European Championships. Skaters who competed as juniors internationally on the Junior Grand Prix can also participate in senior Russian Nationals.

HOW TO WATCH

Match Arena: Russia’s Match Arena will air the entire competition and gala live. Schedule in Moscow Time:

Match TV: Russia’s Match TV will air most of the competition live, excluding the ice dance events and gala. Schedule in Moscow Time:

Sportbox: Russia’s Sportbox.ru will livestream the entire competition and gala. These streams are blocked outside of Russia. Schedule in Moscow Time:

Other TV channels: USA’s ESPN 3 will air the entire competition and gala live. The official stream is blocked outside of the USA and requires signing in with a TV provider to view. Japan’s JSports 4 will livestream the entire competition and gala. The official streams are blocked outside of Japan and may require signing in with a TV provider to view.

Youtube: If you can’t watch live, videos from the competition will be uploaded to Youtube very quickly, so you can always catch up later. Search skaters’ names and filter by upload date for the latest videos.


JAPANESE NATIONALS

The Japanese National Championships will take place Dec. 22-26 in Osaka. Japanese Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the Four Continents, Junior World, and senior World teams. Top finishers from Japanese Junior Nationals in November are also invited to compete at senior Nationals. Besides the four senior disciplines, there will also be a junior pairs’ competition. The Japanese Nationals gala is called “Medalists on Ice” and usually invites a few skaters from other countries to participate as well.

HOW TO WATCH

The singles short program draws will be livestreamed by Fuji TV on Youtube at 18:30 JST, Dec. 22nd. The stream is blocked outside of Japan. “Both Sides”, a documentary giving a backstage look at the competition, will air on Fuji TV at 01:25 JST on Dec. 27.

Fuji TV:Fuji TV will air some of the competition live, but most of the broadcasts will be on tape delay. Schedule in JST:
