2017-18 Russian & Japanese National Championships: Info & Streaming

With Olympic spots on the line and boasting some of the toughest fields in the world, both Japan and Russia will hold their national championships this week from Dec. 20-24! More information will be added to this post as it appears.

RUSSIAN NATIONALS

The Russian National Championships will take place Dec. 20-24 in St. Petersburg. Russian Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the Olympic, European, and World teams. The final Olympic and World teams are usually announced after the European Championships in January. Age-eligible skaters who qualified for the Junior Grand Prix Final can also participate in senior Russian Nationals. Note: Evgenia Medvedeva will not participate in order to focus on recovery from her injury and preparation for the European Championships.

HOW TO WATCH

Fan streams: FS Live will stream the entire competition and gala on Youtube. See the video description for stream links.

Match Arena: Russia’s Match Arena will air the entire competition and gala live. Schedule in Moscow Time:

  • 12/21: Men’s SP 14:00; Pairs’ SP 16:50; Short Dance 20:30

  • 12/22: Ladies’ SP 14:00; Men’s FS 16:50; Free Dance 20:10

  • 12/23: Pairs’ FS 15:00; Ladies’ FS 17:35

Match TV: Russia’s Match TV will air parts of the competition live. Schedule in Moscow Time:

Sportbox: Russia’s Sportbox.ru will livestream the entire competition and gala. These streams are blocked outside of Russia. Schedule in Moscow Time:

Other TV channels: Japan’s JSports will livestream the entire competition and gala. The official stream is blocked outside of Japan and may require signing in with a TV provider to view.

On demand: If you can’t watch live, videos from the competition will be uploaded to Youtube, so you can always catch up later. Search skaters’ names and filter by upload date for the latest videos.


JAPANESE NATIONALS

The Japanese National Championships will take place Dec. 20-24 in Tokyo. Japanese Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the Olympic, Four Continents, Junior World, and senior World teams. Top finishers from Japanese Junior Nationals in November are also invited to compete at senior Nationals. The Japanese Nationals gala is called “Medalists on Ice”. Note: Yuzuru Hanyu will not participate in order to focus on recovery from his injury.

Short program draws: The opening ceremony and SP draws will be livestreamed by Fuji TV on Youtube, Dec. 20 at 18:30 JST. The stream is blocked outside of Japan.

Fan streams:QQ Live may stream part or all of the singles competitions live. FS Live may stream part or all of the singles competitions live on Youtube. See video description for stream links.
