2017 US & Canadian National Championships: Info & Streaming

Russia and Japan have crowned their national champions for the season, and now all eyes will turn towards the US and Canadian National Championships taking place next week! This post will focus on the senior events, but we will provide some information on watching the lower-level competitions as well. More information will be added to this post as it appears.

US NATIONALS

The US National Championships will take place Jan. 14-22 in Kansas City, MO. US Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the 4CC, Junior World, and senior World teams. Skaters who competed as juniors internationally can compete at US Nationals as seniors if they have passed the appropriate USFSA tests. US Nationals consists of five levels in total: juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, and senior. This post will focus on the senior competitions. Unlike other competitions, the US Nationals podium has four spots: gold, silver, bronze, and pewter.

With the conclusion of the Grand Prix Series, we now kick off the second half of the season with two of the most hard-fought national championships in the world - Japan and Russia, both taking place this week from Dec. 22-25. Tune in to see your favorite skaters battle for a spot at the ISU Championships in 2017! More information will be added to this post as it appears.

RUSSIAN NATIONALS

The Russian National Championships will take place Dec. 22-25 in Chelyabinsk. Russian Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the European and World teams. The final World team is usually announced after the European Championships. Skaters who competed as juniors internationally on the Junior Grand Prix can also participate in senior Russian Nationals.

JAPANESE NATIONALS

The Japanese National Championships will take place Dec. 22-26 in Osaka. Japanese Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the Four Continents, Junior World, and senior World teams. Top finishers from Japanese Junior Nationals in November are also invited to compete at senior Nationals. Besides the four senior disciplines, there will also be a junior pairs’ competition. The Japanese Nationals gala is called “Medalists on Ice” and usually invites a few skaters from other countries to participate as well.

2016 Junior & Senior Grand Prix Final & CS Golden Spin of Zagreb: Info & Streaming

After six weeks of intense competition, the top six skaters in each discipline will now battle for the Grand Prix Final crown! The Junior and Senior Grand Prix Finals will both take place in Marseille, France, from December 8-11.

The last Challenger Series competition of the season, Golden Spin of Zagreb, will also take place this week and will feature an unusually deep field of several top skaters who did not qualify for the Grand Prix Final. Information on Golden Spin is available at the end of this post. This post will be updated with more information as it appears.
